Trades At Great Massingham.

On Weasenham Road, left to right: Rose Cottage, the Copeman residence. The Webbs lived in the brick cottages from where they possibly sold fruit or wet fish (note the sign leant against the wall). Next is the Wesleyan Chapel on the corner. The house in the middle, Shrublands, belonged to Hodson the builder. The Royal Oak public house where the West family were licensees from 1836 to 1904. The pub closed in the 1950s. The village fire engine was kept on the site and fire-fighters could stay inside the low building with the white chimney stack. The telegraph poles carried wires from the fire station to the fire siren.
